Science – Living Things and Their Habitats
In Science, we’ll be exploring the fascinating world of living things. The children will learn how to
classify animals, understand what they need to survive, and explore different habitats. We’ll
investigate how living things depend on each other and how we can help protect the environments
around us.
Geography – Investigating Water
Our Geography topic will take us on a journey to learn all about water — where it comes from, how
it moves, and why it’s important. We’ll study rivers, seas, and the water cycle, and think about how
we can look after our planet by using water wisely.
Maths – Numbers to 100 and Addition/Subtraction
In Maths, we’ll be strengthening our understanding of numbers to 100. We’ll practise counting,
ordering, and comparing numbers, as well as learning strategies for addition and subtraction.
Through games, problem-solving, and practical activities, we’ll develop our confidence working with
numbers.
English – Story Writing (‘How to Grow Your Own Dinosaur’)
In English, we’ll be inspired by the imaginative story ‘How to Grow Your Own Dinosaur’. Children
will plan and write their own creative stories, focusing on using adjectives, sequencing ideas, and
improving their sentence structure. We’ll also work on punctuation, handwriting, and reading with
expression.
SPaG – Sentence Structure and Punctuation
Our SPaG lessons this term will focus on building strong sentences using correct punctuation. The
children will practise using capital letters, full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks
accurately. We’ll also look at how to join ideas using conjunctions and make our writing more
interesting with well-chosen words.
RE – Creation and Covenant
In our RE lessons, we’ll explore the theme of Creation and Covenant. We’ll reflect on the story of
creation and think about how we are called to care for God’s world. The children will learn about
promises (covenants) and how keeping promises helps build trust and friendship. We’ll also think
about how we can show gratitude and respect for the world around us.
Spellings and Phonics
We’ll begin the term by revisiting Phase 2–5 phonics to refresh our sound knowledge. Children will
also focus on spelling the days of the week and months of the year correctly. Regular spelling
practice and phonics games will help build accuracy and confidence.
Reminders
• Please ensure your child brings their water bottle, coat, book bag, and reading diary to school
every day.
• Homework is given out on Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday.
• PE day is Wednesday – please make sure your child’s kit is in school.
• Please continue to read daily with your child and record this in their reading diary.
• Our Year 2 Collective Worship will take place on Friday 7th November 2025 at 9:00am – families
are warmly invited to join us.
