Micah 6.8 ‘And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God’

Sacred Heart’s curriculum is closely designed around our school’s mission and value statements and to support the development and needs of the pupil’s and families we serve. Our curriculum is designed to allow children to endeavour, enrich and enjoy their learning.

The Word of God is celebrated and guides us in all that we do, Christ’s teachings are at the heart of every aspect of school life. Every member of our school community is unique and our curriculum is designed to celebrate this, guiding our children to develop a deep understanding of God’s creation and to experience life to the full.

Due to the context of our school and the diverse social and economic backgrounds of our families, we have designed a curriculum that includes a wealth of enrichment opportunities our children may not otherwise experience. We also place a high focus on acquiring and understanding vocabulary through high quality texts which drive most aspects of learning. Reading is at the heart of our school and central to children’s learning, from the Foundation Stage communication and language skills are given highest priority.

At Sacred Heart we think about thinking. We understand that our brain grows by making connections with what we know. We know that making mistakes is a great chance to show us the incorrect connections that we have made: they are a chance to learn. When we choose to learn in a way that builds our connections, we know that this improves our Learning Powers. At Sacred Heart, we practice this ‘metacognition’ throughout each school day.

Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a core strength. Children are challenged to think hard and to empathise with the feelings and actions of others, seeing points of views and beliefs other than their own. The curriculum is designed develop knowledge and skills that are progressive, as well as transferable, throughout their time at Sacred Heart and also to their further education and beyond.
